We recently attended a site to perform 12 month servicing on their 3 Mirrlees ESL12 emergency generator engines.
During the inspection we came across the following issues across the engines:
Generator 1
- Jacket water heaters not working
- No Anti-freeze in the engine
- Oil leak from differential pressure switch on local panel
- Lube oil temp Amots loose in their pockets
- Cam timers not operational for oil priming pump (customer to replace)
Generator 2
- Lube oil temp Amots loose in their pockets
- No antifreeze in the engine
- Oil leak from local panel
- Various gauges not reading correctly (Gearbox oil pressure, Coolant pressure A bank)
- Governor oil low (topped up during service)
- Coolant flow Amot cable sheathing broken exposing wiring.
Generator 3
- No antifreeze in the engine
- Jacket water heaters not working
- Lube oil temp Amot loose in the pocket
I shared this with you to highlight these common, yet easily avoidable oversights.
What would an inspection on your engines flag up?
