Engine Maintenance

12/17/2021

We recently attended a site to perform 12 month servicing on their 3 Mirrlees ESL12 emergency generator engines.

During the inspection we came across the following issues across the engines:

Generator 1

  • Jacket water heaters not working
  • No Anti-freeze in the engine
  • Oil leak from differential pressure switch on local panel
  • Lube oil temp Amots loose in their pockets
  • Cam timers not operational for oil priming pump (customer to replace)

Generator 2

  • Lube oil temp Amots loose in their pockets
  • No antifreeze in the engine
  • Oil leak from local panel
  • Various gauges not reading correctly (Gearbox oil pressure, Coolant pressure A bank)
  • Governor oil low (topped up during service)
  • Coolant flow Amot cable sheathing broken exposing wiring.

Generator 3

  • No antifreeze in the engine
  • Jacket water heaters not working
  • Lube oil temp Amot loose in the pocket

I shared this with you to highlight these common, yet easily avoidable oversights.
