After a two-year search to find a firm with the exceptional skills, quality and customer care needed to qualify as one of its five UK Service Dealers, global engineering firm MTU has chosen West Mersea’s Bartech Marine.

The company is now an authorised partner, responsible for all authorised and OEM-backed servicing for MTU engines across East Anglia.

MTU, founded in Germany in 1909, is one of the world’s leading engine manufacturers and is renowned for creating engines of many classes that lead the way in performance and reliability. As a result, MTU engines are widely chosen for use in marine, locomotive, power generation and offshore applications.

Famously, MTU engines power the Class 43 high-speed Intercity trains that operate on many major UK routes. An MTU engine also powered the Virgin Atlantic Challenger II, the powerboat Richard Branson used to secure the Blue Riband on his record-breaking Atlantic crossing in 1986.

MTU will now be referring clients in East Anglia to Bartech Marine, which has invested a significant amount of time, planning and resources to achieve Service Dealer status. The company was chosen because it impressed MTU with its detailed 5-year business plan, emphasis on the core MTU values of ‘Power. Passion. Partnership’, track record of growth and excellent customer service — as well as its forthcoming move to spacious new premises in Colchester’s Port Lane.

Bartech Marine has invested in MTU approved training for team members, held in both Norway and Germany. This additional training enhances the skills of Bartech’s engineers, ready for them to undertake warrantied and post-warranty work on all MTU engines using specialist tooling and full diagnostic equipment.

The appointment is good news both for Bartech and the local economy, as Director Paul Bleck explains: “This is our first official dealership, and we’re aiming to be the number one MTU dealer in the UK. This contract will open the door to new clients and allow us to recruit more local talent as we grow. It’s particularly pleasing that MTU chose us because of our attention to detail and fast response times — and I’m confident that our ethos of putting our customers’ interests first will bring major benefits to clients, our business and local area.”
