Avoiding problems with engine control systems

Engines

Do your engine control systems rely on pneumatics? If so, our maintenance guide may be useful.

We have seen this as another vital part of the engine system which is regularly neglected and in fact, recently we were contacted by a vessel in Malta which was unable to operate because of engine control system problems.

Initially, it was thought to be due to the governor, but we gave it a full test on our rig against original settings and it was performing as expected.

Further discussions with the crew identified a problem with the pneumatic signal to the governor, which needed more investigation.

Here at Bartech, we are not specialists in pneumatic engine control systems, but fortunately, we work with one who went out to the vessel, quickly diagnosing the route cause, making repairs so the vessel could be out operating again and proposed a replacement.

As the pneumatics can be such a vital part of controlling the engine performance, we have put together some maintenance recommendations so you can reduce the possibilities of engine downtime. This free guide is available here.

We hope this helps keep your engine operational, however, if you do have any issues or queries, please call us on 06 791552 or drop us an email at info@bartechmarine.com and we will be happy to assist.
