Bartech’s top tips to ensure your engines are ready for winter…

  • Use an antifreeze tester to check the specific gravity of your coolant – replace or top up as required
  • Check your engine’s pre-heat system is functioning correctly – if you don’t have one of these and would like to learn more, we can retrofit them, so just get in touch to arrange a survey
  • Ensure your oil is suitable for winter – use the viscosity chart in your engine handbook
  • Drain any freshwater components such as heat exchangers if the engine will not be in use over the winter
  • Check the weatherproofing of the engine’s environment is sound
  • If your engine has an air start – drain the water from it
  • If your maintenance programme needs work, this is the perfect time to have an engine health check or free survey – if you are land-based in the UK please get in touch and we will book an engineer’s visit
