We wanted to share something that highlights the intricate challenges often faced by vessel owners.

We were recently approached by a vessel owner who had grappled with persistent engine issues for the past five years. The engine struggled to start normally, and when operational, it consistently over sped.

After exhausting multiple avenues without success, the vessel owner turned to us for assistance. Upon discussion, we requested the governor for a comprehensive inspection. Andy, our governor specialist meticulously examined and dismantled the governor, uncovering a series of critical issues.

Heinzmann Governor Damage

The flyweight arrangement was notably damaged. During a previous operation, the engine over sped, causing the fuel pump to seize.

This, in turn, led to the governor flyweight colliding with the housing, resulting in damage to both the housing and the displacement of guide pins and springs.

Currently, our in-house machinist Gary is remanufacturing the guide pins to rectify the damage. Once complete, the governor will be expertly reassembled and returned to the vessel for thorough testing.

This case serves as an extreme example of how prolonged issues can persist without the right expertise and contacts. We understand the complexities critical engines pose, and we are here to offer our assistance.

Have you any issues with your critical engines and components that have been ongoing for longer than you’d hoped?

If so, get in touch, we’d love to help.
