Mirrlees ELS12 generator set drop in oil pressure
Last week we were called to the site of a Mirrlees ELS12 generator set, and there’s no prizes for guessing what the issue seemed to be.
Once Cris arrived on site and went about looking into the reported problem, he found there was no issue with the engine’s oil pressure.
Instead, there was a problem with the feedback of information to the panel.
For this setup, the engines rely on Amot switches as part of the warning system
As he continued his investigation, he took a look at the switches and found oil leaking through the diaphragms. This was evident by oil either side of the diaphragm.
The diaphragms were changed for new, and the engine started up to check there were no further issues.
A useful reminder that even if your systems are telling you there is a problem, that might not be the case, but instead it could be the feedback system.
