The client approached Bartech Marine to overhaul 6 of Ruston 12RKC cylinder heads, with particular attention to some problem areas that were causing the client to scrap complete heads. The problem was pitting around a water rail connection which meant the connection was not successfully sealing.
After in-house review and discussions with the client it was decided that the best solution to revive these Ruston 12RKC cylinder heads was to machine out the pitted area and fit an insert, basically replacing the damaged area. This process utilised the skills of our in-house engineering team in concept, CAD design, material selection and completion.
The modifications were successfully completed with the heads passing testing and final inspection. This modification has extended the life of the cylinder heads, reducing the expense for the client.
